Home / Our blog / Phuket or Pattaya? Balanced choice

At one time, I happened to live in Pattaya for more than a year before moving to Phuket. So I have a complete understanding of the essence of the issue and can compare these two colorful regions.

I remember the noise of cars well. Wherever you live, within the city limits, there is a constant monotonous hum or a sharp crack from motorbikes with custom silencers. There are of course also quiet places, such as the residences of villas and private households behind Sukhumvit, a place that the locals call the” dark side " (dark side) and do not recommend to wander there after sunset.

I remember English-speaking expats often saying ” " It's easy to get into trouble in this city." Indeed, the security situation there is much worse than in any other tourist destination in Thailand.

Of the advantages, perhaps, only the ability to move around the city on inexpensive public transport, which on the islands is limited to only a few routes. But this is important for very low-income tourists or those who can not drive. If you rent at least a motorbike or an inexpensive car, you will no longer worry about the existence of public transport.

As for real estate prices, Phuket has long had a choice in the segment of budget housing at prices quite competitive with Pattaya. Now buyers with a "Pattaya" budget can easily buy a house in Phuket near the beach with clear water and snow-white sand. At the same time, the price level for renting real estate in Phuket is much higher, which means that the payback in Phuket is faster.

The clean beaches of Phuket and the sea with clear water are nothing compared to Pattaya, where you need to swim 40 minutes by ferry to a neighboring island with clean beaches or huddle on a narrow strip of sand between the road and the sea in Pattaya. The cleanliness of the beaches and the sea in Pattaya also leaves much to be desired. Pattaya is one of the favorite holiday destinations among the residents of the metropolis of Bangkok, which is only 2 hours away.

Also in Pattaya, the problem of overpopulation is brewing. A large number of high-rise buildings, a construction boom, and the influx of large numbers of residents from other provinces to earn money makes this already lively and bustling city even more densely populated.

If you want peace, quiet, picturesque nature, a variety of beaches and neighboring islands, while not inferior to Pattaya in terms of developed infrastructure, then this is of course Phuket. By the way, focusing on the discerning Western public, in terms of service, it has already overtaken Pattaya.

Phuket Airport is an international hub from which you can fly to most countries in Southeast Asia and many countries on other continents. From Pattaya, you will most likely have to go to Bangkok airports, as Utapao Airport serves a very limited number of destinations.

After looking at almost all the resort regions of Thailand and objectively comparing them, I stopped in Phuket.
If you haven't been to Phuket yet, be sure to visit this paradise island. Phuket must be seen!
You will fall in love with it from the first meeting and will no longer think of any other place, every time you come back here.
